Olivia Rodrigo is proving yet again why she remains one of pop music's biggest forces. In keeping with the enormous momentum around her upcoming third studio album, 'You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,' the singer-songwriter's recently released single 'The Cure,' has officially debuted at No. 1 on both the Global and US Spotify Streaming Charts.

Just weeks after the success of 'Drop Dead,' Rodrigo is entering what fans are calling her boldest and most emotional era yet.

'The Cure' Becomes Olivia Rodrigo's Latest Streaming Smash

'The Cure,' which was released on 22nd May, swiftly rose to the top of Spotify's streaming rankings in the US and across the world after being one of the most talked-about songs on the internet. The song reportedly garnered enormous first-day streams and was Rodrigo's second No. 1 Spotify debut of 2026, following 'Drop Dead.' The achievement also made her the first female artist this year to score multiple global Spotify chart-toppers.

Produced by Rodrigo's longtime partner Dan Nigro, the emotional track features a theatrical music video in which the vocalist changes from a nurse to a patient in a surreal hospital. Because of its symbolic themes and darker narrative, the visuals have already generated a lot of fan discussion on the internet.

In interviews promoting the song, Rodrigo shared that The Cure is "my favourite song on the album and one of my favourite songs I've ever made." She also clarified that despite the title, the track has "nothing to do with the band" The Cure, even though she remains close friends with frontman Robert Smith after their memorable Glastonbury performance together.

Upcoming Album Already Building Massive Buzz

Rodrigo's upcoming album 'You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love' is scheduled for release on 12th June, via Geffen Records. The project is anticipated to have a more mature and experimental sound influenced by heartbreak, desire, and "sad love songs," following the enormous success of her earlier albums 'SOUR' and 'GUTS.' 'Drop Dead,' which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and swiftly rose to prominence as one of the year’s biggest pop singles, kicked off the album promotion.

The song gained attention for its dreamy pop-rock production, Versailles-inspired music video, and even a lyrical nod to 'Just Like Heaven' by The Cure. According to reports, the single's success contributed to the renowned band’s music being reintroduced to new and younger generation of fans.

Apart from 'The Cure' and 'Drop Dead,' Rodrigo has also teased another emotional track titled 'Begged,' which she performed during her hosting appearance on Saturday Night Live earlier this month. Fans now eagerly await the full album, with many predicting it could become one of the defining pop records of 2026.
