The 2026 FIFA World Cup is already shaping up to be one of the biggest sporting events in history, and now it's adding a massive entertainment twist. Global music superstars Madonna, Shakira, and BTS will perform the first-ever halftime show at a FIFA World Cup final, according to an official announcement from FIFA. Inspired by the Super Bowl-style entertainment format, the performance is expected to turn the 2026 final into a global pop culture spectacle alongside football's biggest night.

FIFA World Cup 2026 to Introduce Historic Halftime Entertainment

FIFA confirmed that the first official halftime show of the World Cup will take place at MetLife Stadium on 19th July, 2026. With 48 teams and 104 games spread around North America, the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which is jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will also be the largest iteration of the competition to date. FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the halftime concert as a "historic moment" that combines music, entertainment and football on one global stage.

The extremely popular Super Bowl performances in the US, where musical performers become as talked about as the game itself, are the source of inspiration for the halftime concept. This is the first time FIFA has formally incorporated a halftime concert to a World Cup final, although football competitions have occasionally dabbled with entertainment events. The action also comes after Shakira's successful halftime performance in the 2024 Copa América final in Miami, which attracted attention from all around the world and spurred discussions about introducing comparable entertainment forms to football.

Reports suggest the halftime break may even be extended beyond the traditional 15 minutes to accommodate the large-scale production.

Madonna, Shakira and BTS Lead a Star-Studded Global Lineup

The headline announcement has already generated massive excitement online, as the lineup brings together three generations of global music superstars. Known as the "Queen of Pop," Madonna will bring her stadium-sized performances and decades-long legacy to the World Cup stage.

Shakira, who remains closely linked to football culture thanks to iconic World Cup songs like 'Waka Waka,' is also reportedly preparing a new football anthem titled 'Dai Dai' for the tournament. Meanwhile, BTS' involvement is expected to attract millions of K-pop fans worldwide, making the event one of the most globally watched music performances ever.

Chris Martin of Coldplay is curating the halftime performance in association with FIFA and Global Citizen. Beyond entertainment, the event also carries a social cause. FIFA had earlier declared that the show will benefit the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which seeks to generate $100 million to increase children's access to football and education across the globe.

Reports state that the project will receive one dollar from each World Cup ticket sold. Artists like Katy Perry, Future, Lisa, J Balvin, and Michael Bublé are also anticipated to perform at several opening ceremonies and tournament events during the World Cup in addition to the main acts.

A New Era for Football and Global Entertainment

FIFA World Cup 2026 is presenting itself as more than just a sporting event because pop culture, music, and football are increasingly merging on a larger scale. FIFA's broader goal to turn the World Cup final into an entertainment spectacle such as to the Super Bowl is reflected in the addition of a halftime show.

Fans across social media have already reacted with excitement, curiosity and debate over how the performance will fit into football tradition, but there's little doubt that the event will draw record-breaking global attention.
