Fans of the 'Ahsoka' universe finally have a clearer idea of when the highly anticipated second season will arrive. Actor Rosario Dawson confirmed during Disney's upfront presentation that 'Ahsoka' season 2 is now targeting an early 2027 release window on Disney+. The announcement came alongside an exclusive behind-the-scenes reel teasing the next chapter of the popular Star Wars series.
Rosario Dawson Unveils New Footage
The update has reignited excitement among fans who have been eagerly waiting for the continuation of the story since the dramatic finale of season one in 2023. The first season followed former Jedi Ahsoka Tano as she attempted to stop Grand Admiral Thrawn from returning and rebuilding the remnants of the Galactic Empire. The season ended on a major cliffhanger, leaving Ahsoka and Sabine stranded in another galaxy while Thrawn escaped back to the main galaxy.

At Disney's presentation event, Rosario Dawson not only confirmed the release timeline but also introduced a special behind-the-scenes preview from the upcoming season. While the footage has not yet been publicly released online, reports suggest it offered glimpses of returning characters, large-scale action sequences and the darker tone of the upcoming episodes. The first season of Ahsoka premiered on Disney+ in August 2023 and quickly became one of the platform's most successful streaming titles.
The series consistently appeared in Nielsen's Top 10 streaming rankings during its run and was praised for expanding the interconnected Star Wars television universe created by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau.

Hayden Christensen Returns as Anakin Skywalker
One of the biggest highlights of the upcoming season is the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker. Christensen's appearance in season one was widely celebrated by longtime Star Wars fans, especially because of the emotional reunion scenes between Anakin and Ahsoka. Season two is expected to explore that relationship further while continuing Ahsoka's spiritual and emotional journey.
Reports also suggest the new season will delve deeper into the mystery surrounding the Mortis gods, ancient Force-related beings teased heavily in the previous season's finale. Another major development for season two is the recasting of Baylan Skoll following the death of actor Ray Stevenson in 2023.

Rory McCann, best known for playing 'The Hound in Game of Thrones,' has stepped into the role. Baylan emerged as one of the most intriguing characters in season one, with his mysterious motivations and connection to the Force becoming central to the storyline.
Creator Dave Filoni previously stated that continuing Baylan's story was important to the larger narrative of the series. Returning cast members for season two include Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Lars Mikkelsen and Eman Esfandi.
Lucasfilm Slows Down Live-Action Star Wars Projects
The release window announcement also reflects Lucasfilm's evolving approach toward Star Wars streaming content. After years of rapidly expanding Disney+ projects, the studio has slowed down the number of live-action series in development. In the past 18 months, only Skeleton Crew and the second and final season of Andor have been released as live-action Star Wars shows. Reports suggest Lucasfilm is now focusing on fewer but larger-scale projects with stronger long-term storytelling plans.

With returning fan-favourite characters, deeper mythology and unfinished storylines still waiting to be resolved, 'Ahsoka' season 2 is already shaping up to be one of Disney+'s biggest releases for 2027.
