One of the world's biggest self-help and celebrity interview podcasts is officially entering a new chapter. 'On Purpose With Jay Shetty,' the massively successful podcast hosted by former monk and motivational speaker Jay Shetty, is set to stream on both Netflix and Spotify as part of a major new deal announced just few days back. With streaming giants increasingly investing in long-form video talks and creator-led content, the move represents a major shift in the podcast industry.
For Jay Shetty, whose podcast started out as a straightforward forum for discussions on relationships, mental health, wellness, and personal development, the agreement is another turning point in a career that has made him one of the most identifiable voices in digital media.
From Former Monk to Global Podcast Powerhouse
In 2019, Jay Shetty founded 'On Purpose' with the straightforward objective of popularizing meaningful dialogue. Shetty swiftly amassed a devoted following with inspirational videos, relationship advice, and interviews focused on mindfulness and emotional wellbeing, drawing on his years spent as a monk in India before to making the switch to digital media.

What started out as an audio podcast quickly became a worldwide hit, drawing millions of listeners on various platforms and ranking among the most popular wellness podcasts worldwide.
Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Kendall Jenner, Tom Holland, Kim Kardashian, Lewis Hamilton, and President Joe Biden were among the well-known guests that appeared on 'On Purpose' over the years. Clips from the interviews received billions of views on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook, and the podcast routinely placed close to the top of the Spotify and Apple Podcasts rankings.
According to Netflix's Tudum platform, the podcast episodes has now surpassed more than one billion streams globally, cementing its place as one of the most influential interview shows of the streaming era. To date, Shetty's YouTube channel boasts 5.6 million subscribers.

The Major Netflix and Spotify Deal Explained
'On Purpose' will continue to stream on Spotify and extend into Netflix in video format as part of the recently announced deal. Netflix will launch a few episodes and special editions of the podcast later in 2026, providing viewers with a more visual and dramatic experience of Shetty's chats.
This makes 'On Purpose' the only independently-owned show to score a multi-million-dollar contract between both Spotify and Netflix. According to Bloomberg, the agreement settled for 'On Purpose' is reportedly worth as much as $100 million over multiple years, which places his deal in the same realm of fellow podcasting heavyweights Joe Rogan and Alex Cooper.

While Netflix will concentrate on carefully chosen video episodes, exclusive specials, and expanded content built around the podcast brand, Spotify will continue to serve as the series' primary audio home. The Hollywood Reporter claims that the collaboration is a component of streaming giants' larger plan to compete in the quickly expanding video podcast market.
While Spotify has doubled down on celebrity-hosted podcasts after witnessing enormous interaction from viewers looking for longer-form conversations rather than traditional television forms, Netflix has been experimenting more and more with unscripted creator-driven contents.

Speaking about the partnership, Jay Shetty said, "This next chapter is about reaching people wherever they are and creating conversations that feel deeper, more immersive, and more connected than ever before." He added that the goal has always been to "make wisdom go viral."
On the other hand, Netflix's vice president of nonfiction content reportedly described the collaboration as "a natural evolution of how audiences consume meaningful storytelling today," while Spotify executives praised Shetty’s ability to build "a truly global community."
A New Era for Podcasts and Streaming Platforms
The deal highlights how podcasts are now full-fledged entertainment brands that can span platforms, formats, and audiences rather than just being audio products. As younger people spend more time watching conversational content rather than traditional television, companies like Spotify, YouTube, and Netflix have aggressively entered the video podcast and creator-led programming space in recent years.

While an official Netflix premiere date for the first video episodes has not yet been confirmed, reports suggest the rollout will begin in phases during the second half of 2026, with new interview specials expected to launch alongside the regular podcast schedule on Spotify.
