Jamie Lee Curtis may be the world's most famous "Scream Queen," but she has a surprising secret: she really doesn't like being scared. During a recent panel at SXSW, the Halloween icon admitted that while the horror genre launched her career, she isn't actually a fan of the movies themselves. She clarified that she wasn't joking and explained that while she appreciates the craft, horror just isn't her thing.

Jamie Lee Curtis on Disliking Horror Genre

The actress noted that while she owes her entire professional life to these films, she feels no need to pretend she is a "genre girl" who enjoys the thrills. This perspective is especially interesting given her family history. Jamie Lee Curtis was just a child when her mother, Janet Leigh, starred in the legendary shower scene in 'Psycho.' Curtis eventually followed in those famous footsteps, making her own debut as Laurie Strode in the 1978 classic 'Halloween' and appearing in six sequels, as well as other hits like 'The Fog.'

Even if she isn't watching scary movies in her free time, Jamie Lee Curtis told the audience that she has always loved the independent filmmaking spirit found within the horror community.

Speaking just before the horror film 'Sinners' swept the Academy Awards, she shared how happy she is to see the genre finally gaining mainstream respect. She noted that it is fantastic to see the Academy evolving and growing to appreciate these films, just as any healthy institution should.
