Amanda Seyfried has revealed she signed on for Lin-Manuel Miranda's upcoming musical film 'Octet' before she even fully understood what the project was about. The actress said she agreed almost immediately simply because she wanted the chance to work with Miranda.
Speaking at the 2026 Tiffany & Co. Blue Book Gala, Seyfried shared that she only knew Miranda was directing a new musical film, and that was enough to convince her. Even before hearing the full concept, she was ready to be part of it. Once Miranda explained the story and its a cappella musical style, she felt even more certain she had made the right decision.

In 'Octet,' Seyfried plays Jessica in a story centred on digital dependency and human connection. The film follows eight internet-obsessed strangers who meet in a support group, lock away their phones and confront their relationship with technology through music.
The project features a star-studded cast, including Rachel Zegler, Jonathan Groff, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Phillipa Soo and Gaten Matarazzo. Seyfried said rehearsals have created a strong sense of community, with everyone involved bringing energy, passion and a genuine love for music.
Miranda has also spoken about his long connection to 'Octet,' saying the musical has stayed with him for years and has only become more relevant over time.

While 'Octet' does not yet have a release date, anticipation is already growing for Miranda's latest musical project and Seyfried's return to the genre she clearly loves.
