Alan Cumming may not have had the easiest time filming 'X2: X-Men United,' but one thing that came out of it was lasting friendships. The actor recently shared that he has stayed in touch with many of his former castmates over the past two decades, even after what he described as a tough experience on set.

Speaking at the TriBeCa Ball in New York, Cumming opened up about returning as Nightcrawler in the upcoming 'Avengers: Doomsday.' While discussing the reunion, he revealed that it didn't feel like a full comeback since he had already kept connections with several co-stars over the years.

Alan Cumming's Bond With X2 Cast

He mentioned regularly seeing familiar faces like Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Rebecca Romijn and James Marsden, noting that their bond never really faded. According to Cumming, the group shared a unique connection that came from going through a challenging filming experience together, which ultimately kept them close.

Interestingly, he explained that the reunion process for the new film was quite different from the past, with actors working separately in a more modern style of filmmaking. Even so, the sense of connection remained strong.

Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler

Cumming first played Nightcrawler in 2003 and is now returning to the role more than 20 years later. He recently shared that stepping back into the character felt surprisingly enjoyable, especially since he hadn't expected to revisit it again. This time around, he described the experience as much more positive and even healing compared to his earlier time on set.

In the past, Alan Cumming has been open about the difficulties he faced while filming 'X2,' including long hours in the makeup chair and other behind-the-scenes challenges. But returning for 'Avengers: Doomsday' seems to have given him a fresh perspective, turning what was once a difficult chapter into something more meaningful.

With a star-packed cast and a new take on familiar characters, 'Avengers: Doomsday' is set to bring together old and new faces when it hits theatres in December 2026.
