For millions of TVD fans, it's the reunion they never stopped hoping for. Nearly nine years after the beloved supernatural drama ended, Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev are officially sharing the screen once again, this time in Hulu's upcoming murder mystery 'You Deserve to Know.' The beloved pair is leaving Mystic Falls behind and entering a completely new world full of murder, deception, and secrets.
A Full-Circle Reunion For the Iconic "Stelena" Duo
Few people could have predicted the cultural phenomenon that 'The Vampire Diaries' would become when it debuted in September 2009. Nina Dobrev's Elena Gilbert and Paul Wesley's Stefan Salvatore became one of the CW series' defining relationships, and over the course of eight seasons and 171 episodes, it created one of the most devoted fan communities on television.

Their relationship—fondly known by fans as "Stelena"—remains one of the most debated love stories in modern teen television, despite the series eventually pairing Elena with Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder).
Now, almost a decade after the 10th March, 2017, broadcast of the series finale, Dobrev and Wesley are officially getting back together. Following a competitive bidding process, Hulu has put 'You Deserve to Know' into development, with both stars signed on to both star and executive produce the show.

Announcing the news on 25th June, Dobrev wrote on Instagram, "I've been waiting to share this one... Paul Wesley and I are reuniting to executive produce and star in 'You Deserve to Know.' We fell in love with this novel, and getting to help shape its adaptation from both sides of the camera has been incredibly exciting."
Longtime fans of 'The Vampire Diaries' celebrated the return of one of television's most iconic on-screen duos as soon as the announcement went viral on social media.
Meet Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev's New Characters
'You Deserve to Know' is a psychological murder mystery based on Aggie Blum Thompson's critically praised 2025 novel of the same name, in contrast to their vampire romance in Mystic Falls. The series, which was adapted by author Brian Tanen, centers on three suburban couples who are close friends and next-door neighbours.

When one of the husbands is killed, their seemingly ideal lives fall apart, exposing long-kept secrets, betrayals, and broken relationships that threaten to destroy everyone involved.
Wesley will portray Scott, and Dobrev will play Gwen. Rather than playing lovers, the two characters will apparently find themselves on opposite sides of the murder investigation, setting for a dramatic and emotionally intense relationship considerably different from their Vampire Diaries days.
Unwell Productions and Kapital Entertainment are working on the adaptation, and Dobrev and Wesley are executive producers together with Brian Tanen, Aggie Blum Thompson, Alexandra Cooper, Aaron Kaplan, Matt Kaplan, and Mina Lefevre on board.

As of now, they are the only announced cast members, with additional casting expected in the coming months. Hulu has not yet announced an official premiere date, as the project remains in development.
Why this Reunion Matters to 'The Vampire Diaries' Fans
The significance of this reunion extends far beyond another television casting announcement. One of the most influential young-adult fantasy dramas of the 2010s, 'The Vampire Diaries' launched the careers of its actors and created a lasting worldwide fandom. Even years after its conclusion, "Stelena" continues to trend across social media whenever Dobrev and Wesley appear together, making this their first major scripted collaboration since the series ended.
Following 'The Vampire Diaries,' Nina Dobrev appeared in multiple streaming hits, including Netflix's 'Love Hard' (2021) and Amazon Prime Video's 'The Out-Laws' (2023). Meanwhile, Paul Wesley joined the Star Trek universe as James T. Kirk in 'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' and has remained active as an actor, director, and executive producer across television.

'You Deserve to Know' is the first time viewers will see Dobrev and Wesley lead in a television series, despite the fact that they have frequently reunited at conventions, charity events, and public appearances. But this time, the well-known romance is replaced by a darker, suspenseful mystery in which everyone has something to hide and trust is fragile.
With two beloved stars returning, a bestselling novel as its source material, and a thriller packed with twists, 'You Deserve to Know' is already shaping up to be one of Hulu's most anticipated upcoming dramas, even before cameras have started rolling.
