Grammy Award winning musician, Ricky Kej, has joined hands with 24 refugees living in India, in an ode to humanity. The project, helmed by a track titled, ‘Shine Your Light’, features the inspiring voices from the refugee community in India. In addition, Kej leads the initiative as a mentor, joining hands with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and UNESCO.
Further, it also features involvement from the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP). The track, which follows the sonic themes of past works from Ricky Kej, is a pleasant, celebratory song complete with melodic vocals, harmonies, and choral elements. In addition, ‘Shine Your Light’ features verses in 4 different languages – English, Dari, Farsi, and Pashto.
Further, according to a statement about the project, the song “invites listeners to celebrate our shared humanity, our togetherness and solidarity with those who need us the most in this difficult time.”
In addition, the song features Ricky Kej, Neeti Mohan, Salim Merchant, and Aditya Narayan. And, the message behind the track is amply clear throughout. Kej, known for his involvement in similar projects, believes in using music to spread awareness through the collective conscious.
And, in this initiative, Ricky Kej has dedicated his time to provide guidance to refugee musicians, giving them “a chance to fulfil their dreams.” Further, the song itself sings of togetherness, harmony and unity amongst communities far and wide across the world.
