Phoebe Bridgers has revealed that she would release more new
music this year, noting that she “tries to do things that are exciting”. 'Sidelines,'
a solo song recorded for the impending TV adaptation of Sally Rooney's novel, ‘Conversations
With Friends’, was released last week by the Los Angeles singer-songwriter.

Bridgers co-wrote the song with Marshall Vore, a bandmate
and collaborator, and Ruby Rain Henley. 'Sidelines' will be her sole original
new song of the year, according to a press release. The singer was questioned
if this was the case during an interview with KROQ at Coachella last weekend.

“Who knows, actually,” Bridgers replied. “I try to do things that are exciting so I never really know what I’m gonna do.”

The singer continued by joking that she will
be "dropping a mixtape tomorrow." Bridgers revealed how
'Sidelines' came to be when asked about it: “[Marshall Vore] had this like love
song idea… he sent it to me right in the beginning of the pandemic. And I was
like, ‘This is insane’.”

She continued: “I was so obsessed with it, I was playing it
all the time in the house. And when the show asked me to make something, I was
like, ‘But I don’t have anything that fits’. And Marshall was like, ‘What about
that ‘Sidelines’ one?'”

Bridgers said that the pair then re-wrote some of the song and “changed some stuff around” before re-recording it for ‘Conversations With Friends’. “And it just kind of magically fit and was exactly what I wanted,” she added.

Bridgers, a longstanding fan of Sally Rooney, penned
'Sidelines' from the perspective of someone fearless before the character is
given "something to lose" by love.

Phoebe Bridgers was joined onstage by Arlo Parks to play
'Graceland Too' and 'I Know The End' during her Coachella performance on
15th April. Both songs can be found on Bridgers' second studio album,
'Punisher,' which was released in 2020. Coachella 2022's second weekend
begins on 22nd April in Indio, California.
