Will 'Avatar' 3 happen?

Just like with the previous Avatar projects, James Cameron has been tight-lipped about the storyline of Avatar 3. However, he did disclose a crucial element of the movie during an interview with France’s 20 Minutes in early 2023. Cameron revealed that the next installment will focus on a new group of people embodying a different element.

Cameron explained, "Fire will be represented by the Ash People. I want to show the Na'vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides. In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na'vi examples. In Avatar 3, we will do the opposite."

Furthermore, Cameron emphasized that the Avatar narrative is just beginning, stating, "We will also explore new worlds while continuing the story of the main characters. I can say that the last parts will be the best. The others were an introduction, a way to set the table before serving the meal."

Has 'Avatar' 3 been filmed?

Avatar 3 has wrapped up filming and is currently in the post-production phase. In a departure from the norm, James Cameron adopted an unconventional approach by shooting Avatar 2 and 3 simultaneously. In a December 2022 interview, Cameron explained that this decision aimed to prevent teenage actors from appearing too mature in the later films, drawing a comparison to the challenges faced by popular Netflix series like ‘Stranger Things’.
