"Following the launch of last year's Lost Bass project, Paul’s 1961 Höfner 500/1 bass guitar, which was stolen in 1972, has been returned," read the statement posted on McCartney’s official website.
"The guitar has been authenticated by Höfner and Paul is incredibly grateful to all those involved."
According to updates shared on The Lost Bass Project's website, the instrument was discovered alongside its original case and will undergo minor repairs to restore its playability. The group, spearheaded by former Höfner GmbH marketing manager Nick Wass, former BBC journalist Scott Jones, and television producer Naomi Jones, detailed the meticulous process that led to the bass guitar's recovery.
Receiving over a hundred leads during their search, the breakthrough moment occurred when the team received a crucial tip indicating that the Höfner bass had been stolen from a van in London in October 1972.
Further investigation revealed that the instrument had changed hands and eventually ended up in the possession of the owner of the Admiral Blake pub in London, marking a pivotal turning point in the quest to reclaim McCartney's beloved bass guitar.
