Linkin Park is set to unveil an unreleased track titled 'Friendly Fire,' featuring the late Chester Bennington. The band teased a snippet of the synthpop-inspired song on their social media platforms, revealing that it was recorded during the sessions for their final album, 'One More Light,' which was released just two months before Bennington's tragic death by suicide in 2017.
The teaser, which seems to showcase the chorus, includes poignant lines such as: “We’re falling apart for no reason/We’re pulling the trigger in a useless war/If we go back and go into the black/What are we fighting for?/What are we fighting?/It’s just friendly fire.”

Although the release date for 'Friendly Fire' has not been confirmed yet, its existence was first mentioned by Shinoda back in 2020. He shared insights about the song being co-written by Jon Green, a collaborator on 'One More Light' and expressed his fondness for it.
Addressing the future of Linkin Park, Shinoda revealed that there are no immediate plans in place. "I always just tell people like when there’s news I’ll give you the news," he stated. He also highlighted the band's commitment to maintaining high standards, expressing reluctance towards releasing projects like Greatest Hits compilations or remasters unless they meet the band's expectations.

In a recent piece for The Guardian, Shinoda reflected on the band's fame and recognition. He admitted to wanting success for Linkin Park without necessarily seeking recognition. "Fame was never a priority. But it happened," he wrote. Shinoda emphasised that he and Bennington aimed to showcase the entire band, not just the lead vocalists, in their public image.
While acknowledging the blessings of fame, he mused on the possibility of achieving success without being instantly recognisable, describing the fame aspect of his career as peculiar.
