The 'Ghostbusters' franchise is expanding once again. During this year’s Ghostbusters Day celebrations on 7th June, Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation officially revealed the title and logo for their highly anticipated animated series, 'Ghostbusters: Night Shift.' From the original 1984 movie to modern-day sequels, animated series, comic books, and video games, the announcement is the most recent chapter in a franchise that has entertained viewers for almost thirty years.
While details remain tightly under wraps, the reveal has already generated excitement among longtime fans eager to return to a world filled with ghosts, gadgets and paranormal adventures.

Ghostbusters Day Celebrates a 40-Year Legacy
Every year on 7th June, people celebrate "Ghostbusters Day," which honours the 1984 premiere of the first Ghostbusters movie. Ivan Reitman's picture, which starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson, became a cultural sensation, earning around $300 million worldwide and giving rise to one of Hollywood's most iconic franchises.
Through animated shows like 'The Real Ghostbusters' and 'Extreme Ghostbusters,' as well as feature films like 'Ghostbusters II' (1989), 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' (2021), and 'Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire' (2024), the Ghostbusters universe has grown over time.

This year's celebration proved especially significant as it brought fans their first official look at the next major installment in the franchise's animated future.
Meet 'Ghostbusters: Night Shift'
The declaration that Netflix's next animated series will be called 'Ghostbusters: Night Shift' was the most significant revelation from Ghostbusters Day. The show's official logo, which features the recognizable "No Ghost"symbol that has come to represent the franchise, was unveiled alongside the title announcement by Sony Pictures Animation and the showrunners of the new
'Ghostbusters' animated series Ben Hibon and Elliott Kalan and Ghost Corps executive producers Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan.

Although story details have not yet been disclosed, the title suggests a fresh perspective on paranormal investigations, potentially focusing on a new generation of 'Ghostbusters' tackling supernatural threats after dark.
As part of their efforts to broaden the 'Ghostbusters' universe for streaming viewers, Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation are working closely on the series. Although the idea was first revealed in 2022, this is the biggest upgrade since then.
What's Next for the Animated Series?
At present, Netflix has not announced a specific release date, cast list or plot synopsis for 'Ghostbusters: Night Shift.' However, the series is aimed for a debut on Netflix in 2027. The involvement of Sony Pictures Animation has raised expectations among fans, given the studio’s acclaimed work on animated franchises in recent years.
For the time being, the release of the title and logo offers a positive first look at Ghostbusters' future. Night Shift seems ready to honour the tradition that made 'Ghostbusters' a global hit while introducing a new generation to the world of proton packs, ghost traps, and otherworldly secrets as the brand continues to develop over 30 years after its premiere.

Additionally, Reitman and Kenan honoured the Ghostbusters chapters whose combined charity efforts throughout the year-long "Ghostbusters Give Back" initiative—which was launched on Ghostbusters Day 2025—exceeded the $500,000 donation target during the special Ghostbusters Day presentation.
The top three chapters that raised the most money for their local charities were given "Golden Trap" awards: Ghostbusters Virginia raised $30k, Buffalo Ghostbusters raised $67k, and Los Angeles Ghostbusters raised $65k.

The moment celebrated the remarkable fundraising efforts of 'Ghostbusters' fan communities across the globe and the positive impact they continue to create in local communities through volunteer work and philanthropy.
