Shawn Mendes is opening up about feeling more comfortable and at peace as he grows older.
In a recent interview with Interview magazine published recently, Mendes, 25, spoke with fellow musician John Mayer about his upcoming album ‘Shawn’, his personal growth, and how he’s feeling “better” in his own skin. Reflecting on his journey, Mendes shared that working on this album has allowed him to reconnect with his true self. "It’s already given me more than any of my previous albums, and I haven’t even shown it to anyone yet," he said.
Mendes explained that he’s found a sense of humour and lightness in his self-discovery. "I don’t feel like I’m waking up every day and stepping into the role of Shawn Mendes. I feel like I’m just waking up as me," he told Mayer, adding that he’s learned not to take himself so seriously.

During their conversation, Mayer asked if figuring himself out was a constant process. Mendes responded, admitting he’s willing to let go of parts of himself, but therapy has helped him avoid extremes. He shared that the biggest change in himself, thanks to therapy, is feeling more balanced.
Mendes also touched on ageing, noting that going through life experiences, such as his breakup with Camila Cabello, has given him perspective. "After your first breakup, you feel like you have all the answers," he joked but acknowledged that therapy and learning to take things less seriously have played a major role in helping him feel better overall.

Mayer complimented Mendes on his sensitivity and encouraged him to embrace his experiences, noting that they’re a natural part of growing up. He expressed excitement about Mendes turning these reflections into music, with Mendes’ album ‘Shawn’ set to be released on 15th November.
