Things Change on The Hot 100; The Weeknd Rises Again

The Weeknd reigns supreme yet again

The Billboard Hot 100 has seen a massive change up this week. The singles chart, published late last night, featured some usual suspects. But, aside from that, some artists have seen huge gains, while others have been resurrected from their past positions.

‘Mood’ Soars to The Top

Making their debut atop the Hot 100 rankings this week, for the first time are 24kGoldn & iann dior with ‘Mood’. The track made a leap from No. 4 on last week’s rankings, climbing to the top in its second week on the chart. Further, the track accumulated 20.3 million streams in the U.S, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. In addition, this gives both artists their first ever No. 1 on the important ranking system.

Hip-Hop Stays Strong

Joining them, proving its longevity is ‘WAP’ by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion. Running up at No. 2, the track rose from its No. 3 position last week. Further, it continues its 9 week appearance on the Hot 100 chart. It also continues to reign supreme on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for a ninth week. And, the hip-hop streak on this week’s ranking carries forward with Drake and Lil Durk’s ‘Laugh Now Cry Later’, which gained 4-3 since last week. The track initially peaked at No. 2 in its debut week.

The Weeknd is Resurrected

Further, in a surprising turn of events, The Weeknd rose 6-4, scoring a spot within the Top 5 of the Hot 100 rankings once again. His track, ‘Blinding Lights’ made history as the longest reigning Top 5 track on the chart. Further, with its 6-4 gain, it surpassed BTS’ ‘Dynamite’, which fell 2-5 this week. However, the feat remains impressive considering its impact on the chart, staying within the Top 5 of the rankings. In addition, this marks the South Korean group’s 8th consecutive week on the rankings

Other occupants of the Top 10 on this week’s Hot 100 include DaBaby and Roddy Ricch at No. 7 with ‘Rockstar’, Gabby Barrett and Charlie Puth with ‘I Hope’ at No. 8, and Harry Styles’ ‘Watermelon Sugar’ at No. 9. Further, making their first appearance within the Top 10 this week is, ‘Lemonade’ by Internet Money, Gunna, Don Toliver and NAV.
