The Weeknd, Justin Bieber & Nicki Minaj Diss The Grammy

The 2021 Grammy Awards are around the corner, airing on 31st January on CBS and hence, the nominations are out. With many surprises in store, from Beyonce ruling the list to first-timers like BTS and Harry Styles receiving nods, it’s an event not to be missed. However, there are some artists and their fans who truly are in shock. Why? Well, many deserving artists of this year have been ignored or misunderstood. Questioning the industry? Well, you should!

The Weeknd Takes A Dig At The Grammy

The Weeknd took to his social media to call out the Grammy for not including him in the nomination list. And, all of us are honestly in support of this! The ‘After Hours’ singer called the Awards “corrupt” and continued to question the transparency for the nomination process.

The Weeknd dropped “After Hours” in March of this year and it became one of the biggest albums, commercially and as well on the charts. Not only that, even during Super Bowl and other events, it gained massive popularity. With all the fame associated with the album and its tracks, it was quite obvious for him to be a part of the list. But that surely wasn’t the case.

The Chair and Interim President, Harvey Mason Jr of Recording Academy had a lot to say for this tweet. “We understand that the Weeknd is disappointed at not being nominated. I was surprised and can empathize with what he’s feeling. His music this year was excellent, and his contributions to the music community and broader world are worthy of everyone’s admiration..”

He continued, “We would have loved to have him also perform on the Grammy stage the weekend before [the Super Bowl]. Unfortunately, every year, there are fewer nominations than the number of deserving artists … To be clear, voting in all categories ended well before The Weeknd’s performance at the Super Bowl was announced, so in no way could it have affected the nomination process. All Grammy nominees are recognized by the voting body for their excellence, and we congratulate them all.”

Well, we don’t think this argument is going to be of any value to the fans of The Weeknd but looks like he’s not the only artist Grammy Awards have ticked off.

Justin Bieber Shows His Disappoint Towards The Grammy

While Justin Bieber at least is running in the list of nominees of 2021 Grammy, he certainly has issues with the category. JB is nominated in four categories for the 63rd show including Pop Vocal Album for “Changes”. And, that doesn’t seem to make sense to him.

Justin took to his Instagram to politely argue that his “Changes” album is purely an R&B album and doesn’t fall under the genre of pop music. He also explained that this nomination is strange to him as the concept behind the album was to embody the R&B sound.

There hasn’t been any response from the Grammy however, there’s another artist who’s joined the two to complain about the process. And, it’s not even about this year’s issue, Nicki Minaj has gone back in the past to address her problem.

Nicki Minaj Brings Up Her Grammy Problem

Just a while back, Nicki Minaj celebrated ten years of her “Pink Friday” album and this surely comes as a shock. And, her issue is related to her decade-old album itself. She took to her social media to remind people about what happened.

Even though the ‘Anaconda’ rapper has bagged seven songs which simultaneously are on the chart and is also has more streams than any other female rapper in the first week, she never won the Best New Artist. Instead, Bon Iver took the trophy home. Well, that is bound to hurt.

Well, looks like the Grammy Awards have surely brought the world to question the process of it. And, we believe it’s high time as well. But don’t worry, if anything happens about it, we shall keep you up to date with all that and more.
