The Weeknd Donates To Beirut Relief Fund

On August 12, 2020, The Weeknd gave us another reason to bare with 2020. The singer/songwriter donated a whooping 300,000 USD to help the victims of the recent tragedy in Lebanon.

A massive explosion that was caused by 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate ripped through the city of Beirut took place on August 4, 2020. Tragically killed over 70 people. While citizens around the world are praying for Lebanon, The Weeknd has contributed with a very generous deed to help the city recover.

The donation comes after the manager of The Weeknd and CEO of XO Records, Wassim “Sal” Slaiby, and his spouse Rima Fakih pledged $250,000 to the fund. The couple are originally from Lebanon before they moved to America. While it looks like there was a clear reason behind this couple’s donation there’s no obvious reason behind the ‘Blinding Lights‘ singer’s donation.

However, this act of kindness did not go unnoticed. In an Instagram post from the record company’s CEO, he said, “..I want to thank my brother @theweeknd for his generous and class act of donating $300,000 to the Global Aid for Lebanon campaign. Give what you can and let’s repost so the world can come together to help Lebanon from this this devastating tragedy.”

What makes this donation so lovely is the fact that The Weeknd did not publicize it at all. It took an announcement from his record label’s boss for the world to be informed.

The Weeknd’s Recent Donation

However, this donation isn’t the first time that The Weeknd has reminded that he’s an absolute sweetheart. On June 1, 2020, the singer split $500,00 of his contribution to the Black Lives Matter Global Network, and Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp and National Bail Out.

While The Weeknd continues to add to his long philanthropic resume we must also make our own efforts to help whatever cause we can in whatever small or big way possible.
