SUGA of BTS Makes History, Steals Hearts with New Track

SUGA of BTS makes history

SUGA of BTS is a busy man, even in lockdown. Aside from his packed schedule as part of BTS (considering their whirlwind success with ‘Dynamite), he’s also making headlines as a solo record-breaker. The star just notched 100 #1s on iTunes with his track ‘Daechwita’, subsequently making history on iTunes as a male solo artist.

“D-2” Makes its Mark

Earlier this year, Min Yoongi, also known as SUGA, released his mixtape, “D-2”, under the moniker ‘Agust D’ – his solo rap persona. The mixtape broke records upon release and was received with the kind of fiery fanfare one has come to expect of the BTS ARMY. In addition, the surprise release was met with much critical acclaim. At the time of release, “D-2” peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart, making it the highest ranking album by a Korean solo artist.

Further, ‘Daechwita’ debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Rap Digital Song Sales Chart, becoming the highest charting and first ever song by a Korean artist to do so.

And, now, ‘Daechwita’ has officially scored 100 #1s on iTunes. So, making Agust D, aka, SUGA, the first and only male soloist in iTunes history to have both an album and its lead single reach 100 #1s. The news broke late last night and saw the star trending on Twitter as fans and listeners celebrated the milestone.

SUGA Steals Hearts with ‘Blueberry Eyes’

In addition to record-breaking, the rapper also made headlines with the release of his collaboration with American singer, MAX – a track called ‘Blueberry Eyes’. The up beat, acoustic R&B style track, which was teased months ago, finally arrived yesterday. The track features a rap verse from SUGA, and was also accompanied by a music video, featuring MAX, his wife and a cat.

MAX and SUGA have previously collaborated on the gritty light-rock track, ‘Burn It’, that finds a place on “D-2”. But, unlike ‘Burn It’, ‘Blueberry Eyes’ reads as a love song and offers a sultry, romantic look at the artists and their styles. The track and its official music video are now available on all streaming platforms.
