Shawn Mendes’s “Treat You Better” Hits 2 Billion Views
Shawn Mendes, people! The man is simply unstoppable, isn’t he? He has achieved a new feat. The popstar’s 2016 video for “Treat You Better” has hit 2 billion views as of 16th December 2020! The video joins other counterparts to have achieved this feat although very few. Less than 50 videos have reached this milestone so far.

The track released on 3rd June 2016 as the lead single to his second studio album, “Illuminate”. The music video released on the 12th of July the same year. The video follows along with the storyline of an abusive relationship of the love-interest of Shawn.
The lyrics of the song find Shawn crooning in fury and frustration at his crush’s toxic relationship with another man that he believes isn’t right for her. His love interest is pictured going through emotional and physical abuse with this man.
Shawn sings, “I know I can treat you better than he can / And any girl like you deserves a gentleman / Tell me why are we wasting time / On all your wasted crying / When you should be with me instead?” in what feels like a heartfelt chorus. Accolades To Its Credit
The song is co-written by Shawn with Teddy Geiger and Scott Harris and released via Island Records. It topped the charts at number 6 in the US Billboard Hot 100 making it his second US top 10 single. In the Canadian Hot 100, it featured at No.7. The track won a BMI award and a Radio Disney Music award apart from being nominated for the Canadian Radio Music Awards and Single of the year at the Juno Awards in Canada. The video was nominated in the Best Pop Video category at the MTV Music Video awards in 2017.
Phew! That is a LOT of awards and accolades for one song now! Hitting the 2 billion views mark must have felt like a cakewalk for Mendes, with as many accolades to its credit. Few other tracks to have achieved this milestone are ‘Shape Of You’, ‘Uptown Funk’, ‘Sugar’ and ‘Despacito’.
