Shawn Mendes officially kicked off his ‘Wonder Residency’ on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, earlier today. And, as far as first impressions go, this one hits hard. The Canadian singer-songwriter took to stage to deliver a thrilling medley of his latest songs: ‘Intro’ and ‘Wonder’. The theatrical performance features both spectrums – a stripped down, acoustic rendition and a full live band performance.
At the beginning of the medley, Mendes is at the piano, singing ‘Intro’ – the track featured in his trailer for ‘Wonder’. Shortly after, Shawn walks on to the main stage, delivering a spine-tingling performance of his latest single, ‘Wonder’. With dramatic lighting, elegant camera work and his voice at the possible best it’s ever been, this performance sets the bar high for the rest of the residency.
Further Shawn Mendes caught up with Jimmy Fallon himself, discussing time in quarantine, the process of making his upcoming album and his documentary, ‘In Wonder’. In addition, Mendes went on to reveal that the album is a result of a unique realisation. That realisation being “when talking about matters of the heart, you don’t have to be an expert.” Further, he revealed that it led the exploration of “freedom” in the album.
‘Wonder’ marks the first single from Shawn’s upcoming fourth studio album of the same name. In addition, in a past interview, he also revealed that this one will feature an exciting collaboration. Further, the singer-songwriter also has a Netflix Original documentary on the way – ‘In Wonder’ – slated for release on the 23rd of November.
‘Wonder’, the fourth studio album from Shawn Mendes will be out on the 4th of December.
