Selena Gomez Thinks FB, IG & Twitter Aren’t Doing Enough

Selena Gomez is totally against the way people spread false information on social media. And, with this, she’s gone a step further this time, by accusing many big platforms their abilities to control information which spread on it. The ‘Wolves’ singer has called out Facebook, Instagram, Google, Twitter, Youtube and their CEOs regarding the same. Where did it begin?

On January 6th, people supporting the ex-President Donald Trump took to the streets to hold a violent protest. The riot took place in U.S. Capitol which ultimately led the building to go into a total lockdown. The clash between the protesters and law enforcement led Twitter and Facebook to freeze Trump’s social media handles.

Selena Gomez’s Role In This?

After this chaotic protest, Selena Gomez held the social platform accountable for not doing enough. According to the singer, Facebook, Twitter, Google and Instagram aren’t exerting control over the content that is shared which had led to misinformation and violent acts. Even during the elections, the false and baseless claims regarding Donald Trump were all over these mediums.

So, Selena Gomez didn’t hold back and took to her Twitter account to tag these mediums and their owners. Her justification for this is simple, instead of uniting people for which these platforms are made for, people are using it for spreading hate. And, also acussing these powerful men of failing the American people. Intense and direct, right?

History Of Tweets Against Platforms

Whether it’s standing up for people or it’s about doing what’s right, Selena Gomez is first in the line. The singer has had a history of doing what’s best for the community. Even during the end of last year, she took to her Twitter account to question Facebook and Instagram.

Selene Gomez’s tweet was regarding people using these platforms to sell products which are racists. And, despite reporting such people and pages, Facebook and Instagram have not taken any action. This was bound to get on the singer’s nerves, and it did.

We are glad that the music world at least uses their power in the right ways. And, honestly, with the reach, Selena Gomez has, this is surely going to become an issue. Can’t wait for a reply from the CEOs of these companies.
