Mxmtoon & Carly Rae Jepsen Bring Comfort with ‘OK On Your Own’

Carly Rae Jepsen is back onboard the new music freight train and this time, she’s not alone. The young star has paired up with the singer-songwriter Mxmtoon for a fresh new track titled, ‘OK On Your Own’.

This charming new single opens with a melancholic acoustic guitar riff, sprinkled with ambient sounds of birds chirping. What follows are their stunning vocals, juggling between gentle, moody verses and a chorus studded with starry falsettos. Their voices compliment each other quite well, too. While Mxmtoon’s vocals take on a huskier tone, Jepsen dabbles with a higher octave, giving the song an intriguing mix of flavours.

Coming to the concept behind this track, it delves into the recovery process following a breakup. Much like the title suggests, the song offers a sense of comfort with the idea that taking time out to learn more about yourself can be a form of catharsis. The songwriting fleshes out these ideas brilliantly, take a look:

And I hate to leave you feeling all alone
But your story cannot start until you’ve grown
You can find how to be OK on your own
I just can’t be the one that makes you feel at home

I need some time to myself
So I can comprehend
I’m not so scared to admit
I could use a friend
I need some time to myself
To gain some confidence

When it came to working alongside Carly Rae Jepsen and putting out such an emotionally raw number, Mxmtoon had this to say,  “I was beyond excited to work on this track and have it be graced by Carly Rae Jepsen, someone who stands for empowerment and knows the themes of love and loneliness all too well. My hope for the song is that ‘OK On Your Own’ can let people know that vulnerability is never something to be afraid of.”

‘Ok On Your Own’ will find its space on Mxmtoon’s upcoming EP, ‘Dusk’ slated for release on October 1.
