Lil Nas X Takes Us Back To The Future in ‘Holiday’

Christmas has come early this year and it’s arrived in the form of Lil Nas X on a sleigh driven by robot reindeers. Yup, you read that right. A good year and a half after his debut EP, ‘7’ dropped, Lil Nas X is back in the game with a sparkling new festive treat. The artist just dropped a new single, ‘Holiday’ accompanied by its very own music video.

Sonically, Lil Nas X has shed his ‘Old Town Road’ skin for this track. We see him opt for sleeker rap pieces, tossed up with a quirky, infectious melody. Lined with a simple cocktail of beats and predictable chords, the young star has once again succeeded in churning out a tune that requires just a single listen before leaving you hooked.

Lil Nas X Slips On A New Santa Suit

The songwriting on ‘Holiday’ brings around all that festive cheer along with a few jabs at the music industry. Stacked to the brim with witty quips, the rapper pulls no punches for this one, take a look:

Man, I snuck into the game, came in on a horse
I pulled the gimmick, I admit it, I got no remorse
Nobody tried to let me in, nobody opened doors
I kick the motherf**kers down, they didn’t have a choice
Dun-dun-dun
Popstar, but the rappers still respect me

The music video for the track is the perfect embodiment of all things Lil Nas X. Set in a futuristic factory deep in the North Pole, the rap star runs the show around here. Seen in a white beard and icy blue eyes, the star controls an army of robot elves before climbing aboard a sports car-like sleigh and zipping through the night sky on Christmas Eve.

Whether the star’s new formula will have the same spectacular effect on the charts is something we’ll just have to wait and see. For now, it looks like Santa is indisposed because there’s a new Christmas king in town.
