Lauv is Feeling Some Type of Way

Lauv is out with a whole new album and we find ourselves going through the songs with a certain hunger. It is not your usual pop ballad overload; this is a sensible tryst of deep lyrics with intelligent sound.

What stands out the most in this 21-song-long play are the very many shades of emotions and the journey Lauv takes on.

The sounds of ‘Changes’ and ‘Julia’ are poignant. ‘Who’ and ‘Modern Loneliness’ are heartbreaking mixes that make one feel what Lauv is feeling quite easily. Despite this though, the pop star has refused to take on the label of a “heartbreak king”. This is what he had to say about wanting to steer away from the label: “I just wanted to have fun with this album. I took myself so seriously for so long and I had this hopeless romantic thing.”

Lauv also collaborated with K-Pop supergroup BTS on one of the songs on the album — ‘Who’. “When I wrote the song I wasn’t thinking particularly about who I wanted to feature on it. But just after meeting them I just wanted to collab to be totally honest,” he said about his search for the right collaborator on this album. “I just thought they’re really tight and really sweet, and very talented and amazing life,” he said about BTS.

Overall the fans have received the album and the reviews are starting to pour in.

Time will soon tell how the album fares on the charts, but if we know anything from the past — Lauv will keep us on our toes, imploring us to push the boundaries of pop.
