Jorja Smith Is Going To Host BBC Radio 3 Show

This is not a drill! BBC Radio 3 has recruited Jorja Smith and Celeste to host weekly radio shows where things are gonna get eclectic genre-wise. The show will be carefully curated by the singers, by their chosen moods.

The singer-songwriters will each host playlist-style programmes celebrating melancholic, down-tempo mood music from all genres.

Music For Every Mood

Jorja Smith will host ‘Tearjerker’, described as an hour of “healing, emotional music”. Celeste, will present ‘Downtime Symphony’, which is an hour of “wind down music”. ‘Tearjerker’ is a 12-part series that launched its first two episodes on Saturday, January 16.

The first one-hour part is described as “string-inspired music that just catches you”. The second is a collection of Jorja Smith’s favourite piano pieces. Each week’s playlist will span all genres from Beethoven to James Blake, to promote the healing power of music.

The ‘Be Honest’ singer says they are tracks that make her feel ‘safe’, where ‘silky vocals’ take her to new, more comforting places”.

Celeste’s programme, meanwhile, will feature down-tempo tracks from various fusion styles including classical/house, hip-hop and jazz fusion.

The Importance Of Winding Down

Jorja Smith said that she hopes the music “will help you whatever you’re feeling, bring out different emotions and make you feel a little better”.

Talking about ‘Downtime Symphony’, Celeste said; “Separating work and relaxation is so important for creativity and wellness, now more than ever, so I’m delighted to be presenting a series which spotlights the best music for slowing down, filled with musical nostalgia and discovery”.

In other news, Jorja Smith teamed up with Enny last month for a remix of the rising South East London rapper’s single ‘Peng Black Girls’.

The first edition of ‘Tearjerker’ goes out this Saturday, with ‘Downtime Symphony’ launching the following weekend.
