Halsey Provides First Aid to Injured Protesters on Ground
As the #BlackLivesMatter protests continue, various artists have given us glimpses of what the scene looks like on ground. One musician in particular who’s been extremely active on social media after taking her protests on foot, is none other than Halsey.
The star recently shared a number of powerful images of her experience on the ground at Black Lives Matter protests in Los Angeles.
“It’s become very clear to me that some of you need to see what I’ve seen,” she captioned a slideshow of videos and photos featuring peaceful protestors being tear-gassed and shot at by police. She pointed out that a lot of people aren’t aware of the horrors happening on the streets. What people are watching on television, is but a mere glimpse at the violence taking place.
“But what you don’t see is innocent peaceful protestors being shot at and tear gassed and physically assaulted relentlessly,” she said.
“You think it’s not happening, it’s only the ‘thugs’ and the ‘riots,’ right? The police are keeping you safe right? You’re wrong. This is happening everywhere. And innocent people exercising their rights to speech and assembly are facing violence and abuse of power,” she continued.
Halsey has also been providing first aid to injured protestors. As she herself mentioned, there’s little to no medical assistance available, despite the severity of these protests. But thankfully, due training from her mother, who’s in the medical field,she’s been able to help, wherever she can.
Halsey Points Out the Severity of these Protests
“I have first hand treated men women and children who have been shot in the chest, the face, the back. Some will lose vision some have lost fingers. I have been covered in innocent blood. My father is a black man. My mother is an EMT. This week I had to put those two associations together in ways that have horrified me.”
The singer herself faced minor injuries after being hit by two rubber bullets. She didn’t succumb from anything serious, as she was wearing many layers of clothing and as she mentioned before, she wasn’t shot at close range.
The artists concluded her message on social media with this,
“With Trump’s decision today to enforce the mobilization of armed forces on our own citizens, this has escalated beyond your privilege and comfort to not care. Please care,” she urged. “We are begging you to care. This is war on Americans. This is everyone’s problem. Everyone’s.”
She joins a long list of artists that have spoken out. Many have taken their protests to the streets, while others have been active on social media, putting out petitions, voicing their views and encouraging people to stand together during this difficult time.
