Demi Lovato Shares Shocking Details In DWTD

Demi Lovato‘s four–part docuseries on YouTube might be a harrowing tale of a child-actor’s life gone awry, with chilling details narrated by Demi herself. But it is also much more than that.

‘Demi Lovato: Dancing With The Devil’, is a story of change, and strong-willed determination. Here’s what we know so far from the documentary trailer.

DWTD Trailer

Demi Lovato premiered the trailer to her upcoming docuseries, at the Television Critics Association’s Winter 2021 press tour on Wednesday, February 17th.

The nearly three-minute clip from the YouTube Originals series, which explores her near fatal overdose in July 2018, shows Demi honestly discussing substance abuse, with the singer at one point admitting, “I don’t know why I’m sober anymore.”

Demi spoke to reporters after unveiling the trailer, saying that the experience impacted her health in other ways. “I was left with brain damage and I still deal with the effects of that today,” she shared. “I don’t drive a car because of blind spots in my vision … I had trouble reading.” “I dealt with a lot of repercussions,” she added. “They’re still there to remind me what could happen if I ever get into a dark place again. I’m grateful for those reminders.”

Stars like Elton John and Christina Aguilera also make an appearance to discuss the difficulties of fame at a young age. The singer’s family and friends also explain how good Demi is at hiding her struggles. The interviews with her loved ones are interspersed with a joyous Demi Lovato, before cutting to images of her partying one month before her overdose.

Demi Lovato has said she suffered three strokes and a heart attack following her near-fatal drug overdose in 2018. The star, 28, was hospitalized due to her relapse, after 6 years of sobriety. “I had three strokes,” Demi said. “I had a heart attack. My doctors said that I had five to 10 more minutes.”

A Story About New Beginnings

Demi’s bold move to openly talk about her addiction is because the singer is equally determined about her future. “I’ve had a lot of lives, like my cat you know. I’m on my ninth life,” she says. “I’m ready to get back to doing what I love, which is making music.”

Demi Lovato wouldn’t change a thing about what happened to her. “It was a painful journey and I look back, and sometimes I get sad when I think about the pain I had to endure, but I don’t regret anything,” she told reporters. “I’m so proud of the person I am today.”

She also wants her story to help others. “I wanted to reveal it all for my fans and say, ‘This is who I am, and this is where I am today. If it helps you, then I hope that it can,'” Demi shared. “That was ultimately my purpose in putting this [documentary] out.”

“It’s not just about my journey. I touch on so many topics in this documentary that’s not just about substances … past traumas that I’ve dealt with but have never spoken about,” she said. “Waking up in 2018, I realized there is still so much work I have to do on myself. … It’s about self-acceptance, it’s about not conforming to what other people think you should conform to. You are who you are.”
