The Chainsmokers Come Under Scrutiny For Hosting A Concert
On Saturday, July 25, 2020, American duo, The Chainsmokers hosted a Drive-In concert called ‘Safe and Sound’. Though there was a lot of sound, it sure wasn’t safe as people did not seem to maintain social distance.
On the event’s home page, the show organizers and The Chainsmokers promised strict social distancing measures, but the videos emerging from the show tell us a completely different story!
The governor of New York state, Andrew Cuomo is one of the few people who has expressed his displeasure towards the Chainsmokers event. In a statement, he said “We have no tolerance for the illegal & reckless endangerment of public health.”
The Chainsmokers show was certainly not an ordinary concert. It was a drive in event in New York which lasted for four hours. The event heads reportedly sold tickets for 600 vehicles.
The organizers claim that guests enjoyed the Chainsmokers set from the confines of a designated 20-foot area. However the video resembles exactly what your last concert looked like.
Before the event, organizers told people that the show would follow, “all proper and current protocols”. The extent to which these guidelines were followed is unclear. But by the looks of it, things are beginning to head in the wrong direction for The Chainsmokers.
The show was promoted to raise funds for the organizations No Kid Hungry, Southampton Fresh Air Home and the Children’s Medical Fund of New York. While the intent of The Chainsmokers may have been good, the pair certainly failed in execution.
The Chainsmokers have decided not to comment on the videos of the event. The Internet’s harsh side has come out in the aftermath of the concert. The EDM duo is facing backlash for being “irresponsible” and “reckless”.
The group may have wowed the audience with the sound of their music like always, but was it worth it?
