BTS’ Suga Hits 100 Million Views with ‘Agust D’ Persona

BTS' Suga sets new record

BTS’ Suga, who also goes by the rap moniker, ‘Agust D’, has been riding a wave of success ever since the release of his mixtape, “D-2”. Adding another notch in his belt, the music video of his debut self-titled track has finally hit 100 million views.

Suga released ‘Agust D’, the title track of his self-titled mixtape back in 2016. Taking a step away from group work, and channeling his rap energy into a solo persona, Agust D, explores darker, intense themes detailing Suga’s battles with anxiety, depression and more.

The track, ‘Agust D’ is a high-energy, fresh production, showcasing Suga’s skill as a solo rapper. The bars are witty and the delivery quick. Flexing on his haters, and claiming his place in the industry, both as a member of one of the biggest boy groups in the world but also as a crafty rapper, Suga leaves no room for doubt.

The video sees him breaking free of chains and ties, and setting new standards; seemingly a metaphor for breaking out of the various boxes the industry puts him and BTS in. The mixtape, complete with 8 tracks, received critical acclaim from industry experts and heavyweight rappers in Korea.

The music video for ‘Agust D’ was first released on 16th August, 2016, hitting 100 million views close to four years after.

Suga’s second release as ‘Agust D’, a mixtape titled “D-2” has broken several records, including the highest debut made by a Korean soloist on the Billboard 200. The album debuted at No. 11, just shy of entering the Top 10.

The lead single from the album, ‘Daechwita‘, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Rap Digital Songs Sales Chart, making it the highest charting and only Korean artist to ever do so.
