BTS make history

South Korean boy group, BTS, have set a stellar record with their Japanese single, ‘Stay Gold’. Take a look at the achievement and what it means.
South Korean boy group, BTS, have set a stellar record on this week’s Digital Songs Sales chart. They are no strangers to record-making and creating history while they’re at it.

The past few months have been monumental for BTS. They have enjoyed a great deal of success through online streaming, as the coronavirus pandemic chugs on. And as they come off the heels of celebrating their seventh anniversary as a group, and gear up for the release of their full length Japanese album, they’re approaching the imminent release in super star fashion.

BTS have officially made chart history as their latest release, a Japanese single called ‘Stay Gold’, debuts at No. 6 on the Digital Sales Songs chart. The signature Japanese pop track combines melodic vocals and moody raps about love and friendship. The No. 6 debut marks the group’s 16th career Top 10 on the chart.

As if a non-English track debuting in the Top 10 isn’t achievement enough, the group have also left their mark on the World Digital Song Sales chart. As ‘Stay Gold’ debuts at No. 1 on that chart, it makes BTS the only act in chart history to have 20 #1 hits.

‘Stay Gold’ is one of the lead singles off their upcoming Japanese language album. “Map of the Soul: The Journey” is slated for release on the 15th of July. The album will be accompanied by the release of a single, scheduled to drop later this week.

The music video for ‘Stay Gold’ was released on the 26th of June, and stands at 47 million views and counting. Complete with elaborate real life sets, aesthetic visuals and an upbeat track, the video has had fans rejoicing.
‘Stay Gold’ by BTS is available on all streaming platforms.
