Ashton Irwin From 5 Seconds of Summer Is Going Solo

Ashton Irwin from 5 Seconds of Summer is going solo, that’s right. But no, the drummer of the band is not leaving. Instead, he’s going to release his debut album, “Superbloom” in October, 2020.

The drummer claims to have began working on the project during February’s tour of 5 Seconds of Summer. Reportedly, Ashron Irwin has worked on the album in his LA home. The album features his housemate, who’s also the producer, Matt Pauling.

Ashton Irwin Speaks About “Superbloom”

Ashton Irwin explains, “The over-arching narrative is a support system, healing, recovery, strength and focus on the true self. I felt like I had a lot to write about..”

During a press release, Ashton Irwin speaks about that the album. He explains that it is his expression of his experiences of childhood, alcoholism, depression, body dysmorphia and more.

He says, “I had to reach a certain level of lyrical maturity in order to write about something I actually cared about. I think it’s always important as an artist to have a mission statement, like, ‘why do you make music? Why do you write the lyrics you write?'”

Ashton Irwin continues, “It was really freeing and inspiring to me. The journey I was intending was growth, self-understanding, self-reliance when it comes to song-writing and production. The songs I’ve written for this record couldn’t be sung by anyone else but me.”

The First Single, ‘Skinny Skinny’

To celebrate the album, the drummer is the first single, ‘Skinny Skinny’ which marks his entry into pop-punk genre. The song accompanies a music video which is co-directed by Jade Ehhlers. The track speaks on the issue of body image and self worth. And, what’s more heartwarming is the fact that the song is written after a conversation, Ashton Irwin had with his 15-year-old brother.

On this topic, Ashton Irwin mentions, “He’s already caught up in his own mental image of what his body should look like. I thought that was such a crippling trap for a young man to try and walkthrough.. needed to write a song that captured the pain of body dysmorphia. I have been through stages in my life where I’ve been sickened by that state of mind”

After etting so much insght into the album, we can picture how beautiful it’s going to be. And, we are sure that we will definitely connect to the tracks. We can’t wait!
