Alicia Keys Is Dropping Her Brand New Album Sooner Than We Expected

The week has barely begun and a number of artists have already promised new music. On that steadily growing list is Lil Nas X, Justin Bieber and the latest addition is Alicia Keys. The young star has been gearing up to drop her self-titled seventh studio album. But, due to all the challenges posed by the global coronavirus pandemic, Alicia has been thrown slightly off schedule.

The star has already given us a taste of her forthcoming album through singles like, “Show Me Love,” “Underdog,” “So Done” and more. Along with three other released songs: “Perfect Way to Die,” “Good Job” and “Time Machine”. Each track dances through a spectrum of emotions. But much like her older numbers, the overarching idea seems to revolve around self-love and the ongoing fight against an oppressive system.

Now, Alicia took to Twitter to put out a charming little clip announcing the album’s release date. It featured a flood of tweets, begging the star to unveil the big day. Which she does, at the climax of the clip, grooving in a bright pink top to her track ‘Underdog’.

Alicia Keys & The Fight For Equality

The star also recently performed some of her older hits at the NFL 2020-2021 games. Alicia is helping keep the momentum going on the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Her performance at the game was tied to the NFL contributing to a new $1 billion endowment fund. The fund aims to support Black businesses and communities.

The seasoned star also put down her thoughts on their funding, as she explained, “We are already seeing the blatant injustices that are going on around us. As an artist, I’m always thinking about how can I use my platform to further racial equity. This fund is one of the answers and our goal is to empower Black America through investing in Black businesses, Black investors, institutions, entrepreneurs, schools and banks in a way to create sustainable solutions.”

Alicia Keys has never been one to shy away from the ongoing fight for racial justice. This is in fact, mirrored in a lot of the tracks sitting on her self-titled album. And so, “Alicia” will make its landing on September 18th.
