Landing firmly under our Xperience Session spotlight this week is the superstar, Ricky Kej. He recently created waves with his collaborative effort on, ‘Shine Your Light‘. By adding this soulful tune to his impressive body of work, Kej has further cemented his name in the industry.
Kej currently has a whopping 14 studio albums under his belt, and its taken years of time and effort to craft each project. Now, winding back the clock, the artist developed his passion for music during his college years. While completing his Dentistry from the Oxford Dental College in Bangalore, he joined a progressive rock band which allowed him to gain a strong foundation in order to further explore the music landscape. After wrapping up his course, Kej finally decided on a career in music instead. And as they say, the rest is history.
Kej has gone on to build quite an impressive list of accolades. In 2015, he won a Grammy at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards for his album “Winds of Samsara” in the Best New Age Album category. This album also debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard New Age Albums Chart in August 2014. A few years later, in 2018, Kej was honoured by The House of Commons, Canada for “Outstanding Musical and Humanitarian Achievement”. This made him the only representative from India to achieve this feat.
Now, during his conversation with RJ Neerja, Kej touched upon the brightest moments from his musical journey. From tackling weighty issues with his songwriting and recounting the evening he won a Grammy to his hopes of working alongside Hans Zimmer – the artist covers pretty much everything under the sun. This conversation is simply buzzing with gems so pull up a chair and watch on!
