Xperience Sessions: In Conversation with Joel Jacob

Landing bang under our Xperience Session spotlight this week was none other than Joel Jacob. This fantastic cover artist has made quite a name for himself in the local music scene, so there was no way we weren’t going to get him on board!

Now, before we dive into our session, it’s time for a brief history lesson on this star. Joel Jacob has a whopping fifteen years of experience as a vocalist. He previously found his spot as the frontman of the popular blues/rock band, Perfect Strangers.

He draws his inspiration from a long string of stars. On the list is Michael Jackson, Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars and Dua Lipa. Jacob has dabbled in a wide spectrum of genres, from pop and rock to even soul and R&B. His superb talent has earned him a spot on stage across a number of venues in Trivandrum, Mangalore, Kochi and Chennai. And to top it all of, Joel Jacob has also competed on the hit TV show, The Stage season 2. And that’s a wrap on this little lesson!

Now, diving into his conversation with RJ Neerja, he broke down the process of creating his much-loved covers. “The reason I did my sound engineering was so that I could get a behind-the-scenes look at recording and mixing music. So, I pick a song, I listen to it a couple of times. I open my software, put in a few ideas, record the track and just go with the flow. I finish it, edit the video and put it up in like 3 hours!”

Well that’s the secret behind all the lovely covers sitting on his page. And if you were wondering, Jacob’s mastered some truly groovy numbers from the likes of ‘Watermelon Sugar’, ‘Physical’, ‘Fire on Fire’ and more!

But moving on, what are the top three songs currently on Joel Jacob’s playlist? What’s a track he secretly hates but tells other people he likes? If you want a peek at his answers to more wacky questions like these, then just watch on!
