K-pop idol group iKON have risen to fame since their debut, and are one of the most beloved boy bands in the country. They have 7 members; Jinhwan, Yunhyeong, Junhoe and Chanwoo are considered vocalists, Donghyuk is the main dancer, and also vocalist. Bobby and B.I are known as the group’s rapline.
iKON were wildly popular even before their official debut. 150,000 people applied to attend their final performance on reality TV show ‘Mix & Match’. Their now agency YG Entertainment’s servers even crashed when the final lineup for iKON was announced. The band has released two studio albums, two EPs, a single album, a compilation and a live album. They’ve released music in both Korean and Japanese.
1. The band’s Leader B.I produced and composed all the songs for iKON’s first album.
2. iKON’s name means the intent to become an icon for Korea, thus the K.
3. iKON got their first music show win with their debut song “My Type”, before they even made an official live appearance.
4. Their song ‘Love Scenario’ became so popular in South Korea it was used in everything from TV advertisements to K-dramas.
5. iKON had their very own reality show, iKON TV, where each member had the chance to act as director and come up with ideas for episodes.
6. Their fans are called iKONIC.
7. Member Yunhyeong’s family own a BBQ restaurant, which is probably why he’s good at cooking and is nicknamed Song Chef by the other members.
8. The band’s history with reality shows go deep. iKON member Ju-ne, also known as Koo Jun-hoe, appeared on talent show ‘Star King’ before his music debut and did a cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘Billie Jean’ and ‘Dangerous’.
9. iKON members say member Jay is extremely flirtatious with the fans and even the staff.
10. iKON remains one of the most beloved k-pop groups with throngs of fans all over the world, with a successful and glamourous career.
