Amy Winehouse & Songwriting: Gems From The Past

Today, on September 14th, we celebrate the phenomenon that was Amy Winehouse. Known for her deep, expressive vocals and superb ability to blend a cocktail of genres from soul to blues to jazz – she went on to leave a significant mark on the music landscape. And it’s one that will continue to be admired by musicians and fans alike, world over.

Now, to celebrate Winehouse’s brilliant legacy, we’ve decided to put some of her biggest hits under the microscope. Amy has always been able to tell stories with her lyrics, tales that create a swarm of emotions, racing through your body. And if you were to blend her poetry like lyrics with a melody, it was a recipe for pure magic. And so, in light of her birth anniversary, we’re looking at some of her most poignant bits of songwriting, that have stayed with us to this day.

But before we dive in, while it’s a tad bit difficult to describe the phenomenon that was Amy Winehouse in words, John Legend’s attempt is worth a look, “Amy Winehouse was produced by people who wanted to create a marketing coup. The positive side is that it reacquainted an audience with this music and played an introductory role for others. This reinvigorated the genre by overcoming the vintage aspect.”
