Pink Floyd is one of the most successful pioneers of the rock genre since 1967. From their debut album ‘The Piper at the Gates of Dawn’ to their latest, ‘The Endless River’, the band has touched millions of hearts and smashed many records.
Not only were they commercially successful but also played a huge role in influencing rock music and technology. Pink Floyd is known for their live shows that displayed advance technology through speaker systems, lighting and screens.

1. “Animals”: If you see clearly, there’s a balloon of a pig flying over a factory. The image of the blow up pig is pasted on the image of the factory buildings. Apparently, to capture this image, it took three days.
2. “More”: In the cover art of the album, we see a “windmill, located in Ibiza where two characters are playing”. However on the cover, we get the sense of a psychedelic trip which is what Pink Floyd were going for.
3. “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn”: First, a very rare sight to see the members of the band on the cover. Second, the concept of the artwork was to represent the visuals caused by an LSD trip which was created by capturing the men through a prism lens.
4. “A Saucerful of Secrets”: Apparently, the band said the album’s cover is “representing the swirling dreamlike visions of various altered states of consciousness”. And, we can’t deny that.
5. “A Momentary Lapse of Reason”: In 1987, there was no Photoshop and hence, Pink Floyd had to use 800 hospital beds to create this insane shot. The artwork takes inspiration from their title of the album to display madness and illness.
6. “Meddle”: Without a doubt, this artwork is mysterious. Apparently, there’s a snapshot of an ear under water. The ear represents the “musical nature of events” and the ripples of water show a lack of hearing. Also, the picture is captured upside down and is reversed.
7. “Wish You Were Here”: What happens when a deal goes bad? You feel like you’re the one who’s burnt. The cover shows you the sentiments of being burned because of a bad dynamic which is an intense take on a relationship shared between two people.
8. “The Division Bell”: Whether you see two faces looking at each other or one face facing towards you, this art is bound to blow your mind. These structures had to be built in order to capture the illusion in the picture.
9. “Dark Side of the Moon”: One of the most famous album arts in the history is this, period. The art was designed to celebrate the Pink Floyd’s Light Show and to represent ambition which is the running theme of this entire album.
10. “Ummagumma”: The art uses the Droste Effect however with a bit of twist. If you see carefully, the members of the band are rearranged inside each repeated window. Interestingly, this artwork raised a lot of questions regarding the placement of GIGI album in the cover.
